Frequently Asked Questions

Will my insurance cover my visits?

It depends on the insurance company and the plan. We do not accept insurance directly but can provide you with a super bill if you have a nutrition related diagnosis or condition. You may then submit the super bill to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service and we highly recommend that you call your insurance company and ask them what the coverage is for Medical Nutrition Therapy prior to your initial session.

What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

Many people may market themselves as “nutritionists,” but this term is not legally regulated and therefore can be used by anyone regardless of legitimate qualifications or expertise. Only a Registered Dietitian is recognized as a legitimate nutrition expert and qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy. Please read the description of a Registered Dietitian on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) website for a comprehensive understanding of a Registered Dietitian’s qualifications.

What is Medical Nutrition Therapy?

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is the development and provision of a nutritional treatment or therapy based on a detailed assessment of a person’s medical history, psychosocial history, physical examination, and dietary history. It is used to treat an illness or condition, or as a means to prevent or delay disease or complications from diseases (such as diabetes). Medical nutrition therapy is provided by Registered Dietitians (RDs), who are the health care professionals with the most nutrition-specific training.
